| Thames Water employees, contractors, and local businesses are making final preparations for this years 'Carry On' themed, annual charity Raft Race, to be held at the Reading Rowing Club on Thursday 17 July 2008, 18.15. Twenty-nine teams of six will take part in the one-mile race to raise money for the company's principal charity, WaterAid. |

Mark Wickstead, Thames Water's WaterAid representative, said that the Raft Race always is popular and provides great entertainment for those who come along to show their support. But behind the fun, it's helping to raise money for WaterAid. Over one billion people don't have access to safe drinking water, and we're proud to do all we can to help raise awareness of the vital work WaterAid does in helping to provide safe water, sanitation and hygiene education to people in the poorest parts of the world.
Over GBP8,000 has already been raised for the event through sponsorship, with teams hoping to improve on the GBP20,000 raised last year. The money raised will go towards WaterAid projects in Uganda, where 40 per cent of the population live without access to clean drinking water and around 60 per cent without a proper toilet.
