European Policy Summit on Water

Friends of Europe and the European Water Partnership (EWP) are co-organising the European Policy Summit on Water focussing on saving Europe's water and its place in the EU Green Strategy on 5th November 2008. Venue will be the Bibliothèque Solvay in Brussels (Belgium).

It will include the participation of EU Commissioner for the Environment Stavros Dimas. A few months ahead of the fifth World Water Forum in Istanbul, this event will be the main European Summit in its preparation, providing concrete input into the European Regional Process towards the Forum.

In 2006, the first European Policy Summit on Water organised by Friends of Europe and the EWP provided a Europe-wide platform to debate the EU's water policies for the first time. This year, the third annual summit will be dedicated to the European Regional Process for the fifth World Water Forum, bringing together international institutions, national and local governments, industries, NGOs and other stakeholders from the water sector in Europe and beyond to discuss three issues of great importance to Europe:

Climate Change and Adaptation
Finance
Water Scarcity and Droughts

Water Management in Eastern England

The eastern part of England also is partly reclaimed from the sea, centuries ago. The marshlands now are a valuable agricultural area. Of course, maintenance is needed to keep the water where it belongs and at the same time making it work.
